New Bodies and Genders
Presentation with Lotte Løvholm
12.6.19 5.30 pm
With examples from art history, activism and popular culture this lecture highlights bodily norms and gender stereotypes. Starting with Meret Oppenheim's 'Object' 1936 where a wellknown object 'a tea cup' becomes unfamiliar, the lecture links certain surrealist ideas to queer perspectives on objects and subjects. The term 'abject' by Julia Kristeva is introduced in relation to taboos surrounding body parts. Current contemporary artworks presenting shames and fluidities are highlighted.
The lecture was presented in relation to the solo exhibition by Patricia Piccinini 'A World of Love'.
